Bingo history dates all the way back to 1530, where the origin of the game is from Lo Giuoco del Lotto D'Italia, which was an Italian lottery game. It was in the seventeen hundreds that the game travelled to France and here is it was called Le Lotto and it was played only by the rich. The game soon travelled across Europe and then finally made its way to America.

Bingo was called Beano when it first came to America and it was played rather differently. A dealer would randomly select numbered disc from a cigar box and the players would have to mark the numbers on their cards with beans. Whoever won would yell “beano”.

It was around 1929 when a New York toy salesman Edwin S. Lowe renamed the game and gave it the name we all know today – Bingo. Edwin teamed up with a Columbia university math professor named Carl Leffler and together the toy maker and the professor came up with 6,000 different bingo cards with a variety of number combinations.
